
Cooking classes for kids
Fall/Winter 2023-2024 Classes
To sign up for a class, click on the links below to register through Darien Parks and Rec. Each session of classes will focus on seasonal ingredients, holidays, current trends, and the class’s particular interests. All classes are hands-on.

All Darien Parks and Recreation classes are offered in the Paddle Hut at Weed Beach, unless otherwise indicated.
September - March

Preschooler's Second-Tuesdays-Cooking-Class
Offered the second Tuesday of every month
Tuesdays, 1:30-2:30 p.m (Click Date Below to Enroll)
September 12 - Apple pie - Sprout Chefs - Preschooler's Second Tuesdays: Apple Pie
October 10 - The first Halloween treat, shortbread
November 14 - Decorate Thanksgiving cookies
December 12 - Make cold hot chocolate sundaes
January 9 - Frost and decorate a small winter-themed cake
Children ages 2 1/2 - 5 years and their significant adult will work together to make the following treats.
Fee: $38 for each class. Price include child and adult together.

Stone Soup Series
Mondays, November 13, 20, 27 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Kinder - 6th grade
As the days get colder and darker there is nothing better than hot soup and a good book. The SproutChefs will hear a stone soup story each week and make soups from four different cultures. They will bring all the recipes home, along with the knowledge of how to make it for the family.
Fee: $144.

Family Thanksgiving Pie Making
Tuesday, November 21st 4:00–5:00 p.m.
All Ages.
The entire family is invited to make either 9 1/2” pumpkin, sweet potato and/or pecan pies in time for Thanksgiving dinner. Pies will be assembled in the Paddle Hut and baked at home. Grandparents are especially welcome.
Fee: Each pie is $45.

Winter Camp: Fairytales and Recipes
February 19-23rd 10:00 a.m -2:00 p.m.
Kinder - 6th grade
This week is all about having fun and being creative with words and food. The first day is planned, but all the other days after that will be tailored to fit the participants’ abilities and interests. The campers will spend each day making their own lunch and creating their own cookbook to take home at the end of the week.
Fee:$480.

A SproutChefs’ Day in Italy
Friday, March 29, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Kinder - 6th grade
The SproutChefs will break into three groups and spend the day creating their own fresh handmade pasta lunches. After lunch, they will share what they liked best about each group’s creations. Their selection of ingredients will be seasonal and fresh, except for optional cans of tomato sauce. Desserts will also be created.
Fee:$95.
